Joe Richard Pope
August 23, 1932 - October 10, 2026
There are people in this world who simply lived a long life, and then there was Joe. He not only lived a long life, but he also enjoyed life! Anyone lucky enough to know Joe, you had no choice but to love him. Full of joy, laughter, and the ability to make everyone fall in love with him.
Joe was born in Elk City, Oklahoma, on August 23, 1932. He grew into a man who was, without question, one of the kindest souls you could ever meet. Always a smile on his face and ready to share a good laugh! Laughing through storytelling and singing songs he would make up about his family, life, and most notably, his Subaru! A laugh that stayed with him until his final days.
Joe served his country during the Korean War, spending time on the front lines, something that would always be an important part of his life story.
But perhaps the greatest chapter of Joe's life begin in 1955, when he met the woman who would become the love of his life, Georgetta Faye. They married on June 17, 1957. Joe loved Georgetta more than anything in this world. Their life together was a true love story. They had two daughters together and went on to be married for 69 years!
Joe spent many years working for Marathon Oil in Alaska before retiring in 1985. Joe and Georgetta stayed in Alaska, watching their children and grandchildren grow up before moving to Lake Havasu City, Arizona, in 1999.
Joe loved life! Some of the things he loved the most were his family, IN-N-OUT, getting his picture taken, singing songs, and fishing! He loved fishing up in Alaska. Commercial fishing with the family was one of his favorite things to do! Taking turns taking the grandkids up to Homer to watch the fish come in and taking the Super Star out for a spin. And even after the days of holding a fishing pole were behind him, he was perfectly happy sitting on the sidelines watching everyone else fish and waiting to see what came in. He just enjoyed being a part of it.
He was never the loudest person in the room, but he always left an impression. His kindness did that for him! Always a big smile on his face and a small laugh, and you were hooked. The man's demeanor made you faill in love with him.
Joe Richard Pope lived 94 years. He served his country, worked hard, loved one woman for over 70 years, and enjoyed a lifetime of fishing, laughter, and love! But what he is leaving behind is a lifetime of memories for his loved ones.
So the next time you pick up a fishing pole, have an IN-N-OUT burger, or see a Subaru driving down the road, think of Joe and crack a little smile.
